Winter Things to Do
North Conway
New Year's Eve - Fireworks in Schouler Park!
New Year's Eve head to North Conway Village to enjoy the fireworks at Schouler Park! This is the premier thing to do in North Conway to ring in the New Year.
And lord knows we need a new year! The fireworks are shot off from the North Conway Golf Course and can be seen from West Side Rd.
You can stay nice and cozy in your car or you can stand in Schouler Park.
Snow Sculpting Competition in Jackson, NH
The Annual Invitational Snow Sculpting Competition is happening this January right here in Jackson, New Hampshire.
The event takes place at Black Mountain Ski Area. The mountain will be open during the competition so make a day of it: hit the slopes, and watch the art being carved into mounds of snow right before your eyes!
Teams from all over the Northeast will commence in creating sculptures out of 8 foot high, and 4 foot round cylinders of compacted snow. The day starts at noon and ends on Sunday.
Spectators are welcome throughout the entire weekend and can watch as much of the process as they want. The pieces typically remain for at least a week after their completion.
So even if you miss the event itself, you can come see the art for yourselves!
There are some side events for the kids, admission is free (but donations are welcome) and lift tickets for Black Mountain are sold separately.
There is also a welcome dinner on Saturday evening and spectators are also welcome to join the awards banquet on Sunday afternoon.
Cranmore Mountain Season Has Arrived!
Yes, you heard me right. The mountains are up and running (and we just go hit with a Nor'easter) so there is beautiful snow covering our 1700 foot mountain right here in downtown North Conway.
Cranmore Mountain has moved all of it's ticket sales to online at Cranmore.com
They are also limiting ticket sales each day to promote health and safety in these strange times so make sure you plan ahead! And, buy your tickets ahead.
Cranmore is perfect for skiing, riding, après ski, snow tubing, and of course hitting our terrain park.
Take a Chance and Look Toward the Stars
If you're anything like me, and will be that hated friend that likes dragging people outside in the cold to look at the moon then this is the event for you! And yes, you are the hated friend...just by some. I've accepted it, so should you.
Tin Mountain Conservation Center in Jackson offers many outdoor programs for adults and families.
Jackson Astronomy has organized events to see and learn about Mars, Northern Constellations, Zodiac signs, and Orion and the Orion Nebula.
Cold winter nights are the darkest and clearest skies of the year so they are the best time to go star gazing. Bundle up and join them this January!
Snowshoeing Through Jackson
A great outdoor event hosted by Tin Mountain is Snowshoe Wanderings in Jackson. On this trek you'll wander through the Jackson Field Station property.
Along your way you'll get to see hardwoods, spruce-fir forests, ponds and the oldest tin mine in America! We may even spot signs of dear, fox, moose, and maybe even bears.
The wandering begin at the Jackson Field Station. Space is limited so make sure to register online!
